Catching Up – Themes

Rather than a series of posts, I’m going to simply do a wrap up post covering any links I’ve saved over the past month theme related, and then return to my normal posting methods.

First up is Grid Lock, a magazine style theme, which was recently updated. If you aren’t familiar with it, as I said it has a magazine style approach to the home page content. This means a featured category gets top billing, and sub categories have smaller sections below. There’s an options page to configure the categories. While looking at that, check out Gridlock-K2, a K2 style based on the original.

Next up, a very stylish 2 column theme from Justin Shattuck, Salmon. Beautifully designed with a darker, modern feel, a great example of a quality theme.

AboutMyDot.Net has several nice looking themes. Unfortunately, the previews aren’t working, so can only go by the screenshots, but the theme, A Nice Touch seems particularly well done.

And to wrap up, Smashing Magazine has done it again, rounding up 10, Fresh, Elegant and Clean WordPress Themes.

K2 0.9 Release at K2

K2

Released as a stable version, the ever popular K2 theme, successor to the legendary Kubrick, is now out. Not neccessarily the theme for beginners to dig into the code on, it does support custom style sheets, to allow for users to customize the look. Dig around the site for more info on the history and development of this ground breaking theme.

Customizing K2: Part 3

PaulStamatiou.com

We missed the first two, but Part 3 is out, with links to the previous 2. If you are not familiar with K2, it’s the experimental (well, now in beta) theme for WP from Michael Hielemannwhich takes full advantage of the support built into WP 2.0 for an options page for the theme. This article discusses modifying the theme, as it has some diffferent approaches than the original Kubrick theme from the same author. Even if you are not using K2, there is some interesting ideas that could easily be added to any theme, with a little modification.

K2 Beta Two

K2 Binary Bonsai
First off, Happy New Years. With a hectic weekend, a little slow in getting some annoucements out. So without further delay…Binary Bonsai has released K2 beta 2. Now meant only to work with WP 2.0 (I believe), the theme is slicker than ever. (guess I should update WP 2.0 to give it a go)
