ParySpark, an online social events site, has a WP plugin allowing users to get an up-to-date list of events that are currently happening in your area. Definitely a great idea for community blogs.

Version 3.1 is now out, fully supported in WP 2.0.x with many new features, included AJAX calendar, ical supported calendar subscription, and several more features and bug fixes. Even before the upgrade, a really good events and calendar plugin, can’t wait to test it out test this version out.
One of the most often sought plugins from my experience, after a photo gallery type one, is a coming events/calendar type plugin. This one offers another option. Though it doesn’t seem to link into the calendar specifically, it allows you to create a special category for coming events, and list them in your sidebar.
The twist to this plugin is that it converts that category feed into an ical type feed that then allows people to subscribe to it in any calendar application that supports the ical protocol, which includes google calendar. That I think is a very nifty feature, and one that I believe many will find useful for WP powered sites that are used for projects, communities, and the like.
Owen has updated a plugin of his that allows for a countdown until a specific date in your sidebar (or where ever you’d like the info). Very versatile in the manner you set the date for countdown, and you can set reoccuring events.
Has updated their calendar plugin, which allows for the addition of an event via the admin interface, and then allow your visitors to see the event on the calendar. Also option to alter colors via admin interface allows for easy integration into existing design.
Labnotes
Along with a plugin, the author offers the first (to my knowledge) screencast outlining the use of the plugin. Plugin itself is for using your blog to post upcoming events and details.
I’m sure more screencasts will follow, if not from this author then others.
