Housed at Google code, apparently this plugin allows for a newsletter to be emailed to all registrants of blog content. Lots of ability to customize the outgoing newsletter, as well as an AJAX powered registration (including email conformation for registration). I couldn’t decipher if you could include content outside of blog posts or not.

ShinRa House
A stylish, single column theme, with lots of drop shadow effects and gradients. As the name implies, a blue theme, with an abstract header image (though the demo link seemed to open a different theme, so I couldn’t tell exactly what it was).

The theme also employs a AJAXy drop down shelf, a search box that is also some AJAX type effect (though the cross hair icon may not suggest to everyone that it means search), as well as an interesting Accessibility icon that converts the page to a non graphic, non javascript mode. Well thought out for such a design to include.

Well worth the look if you are after a more ~~“web 2.0″~~ modern feel.

Dan Cameron 2.doh

Dan has packaged his current theme, sans ads, and released it to the public. A very stylish, single column theme, with numerous plugins supported. Another nice feature are expandable panels for each post, containing additional info on comments, related posts, tags, etc.
A great theme for those looking for a modern, albeit a bit dark, theme, or theme developers looking for some fancy code to incorporate into their new design.

As more and more bloggers look at ways of turning their site more “web 2.0″, more and more plugins of this nature will surface. From the author, here’s how the plugin works

The script operates transparently by parsing the (X)HTML of the blog, and adding onclick event handlers to all links that point to internal blog pages. When a user clicks on a link AjaxWp traps the event and, instead of letting the browser navigate to the target page, requests the target page with AJAX.

The author’s site employs the plugin, so you can see it in action yourself. One thing I noticed is how it handles the permalink for posts and pages after using the effect. Otherwise, it is a very nifty use of the scripting, and if it could be harnessed to be easily incorporated in specific ways versus ALL internal links, it might be have a broader use. All in all though, a nice addition to the AJAX library of WP plugins.

Oops. Sorry, didn’t post this one earlier. A clean, two column theme with a right-hand sidebar, also with some AJAX implementation. I really like the use of white space, and the contrast of red and grey on the white background. Definitely a great starting point for someone looking to customize their theme. Slight warning, the site is Italian (I think), but there is a small English blurb to help.

Building a Shelf in WordPress

In case you missed this last week, Owen offers up a tutorial on adding a “shelf” to your blog. For those not familiar with the “shelf”, it’s a AJAX-ified pulldown that you can add additional content to, but is “hidden” until the user clicks the tab (or what ever you use trigger the action). I’ve seen “shelves” contain an “about” section, flickr images, just about anything can be added. Well written tutorial, definitely worthy of a read and a del.ico.us bookmark.
