WordPress 2.0

It’s out. But know, you should rush to upgrade for the sack of upgrading. Do you your homework, make sure you know all the ins and outs of what a major release means. Double check your plugins, upgrade if necessary. This version isn’t about security holes, or major bug fixes, IMO, so one should simply “do it” without knowing what that means. WP Station will be upgrading, but not today. Or tomorrow.

Get Ready, WP 2.0 This Week!

In the next day or two, WP 2.0 should be released (I believe the final RC was let out today, for any last minute bugs). Which means now would be a great time to backup all your files, including your database. Even if you don’t intend to grab a copy hot off the press, backing up is always a smart move. It’s much easier to learn how to import a DB into a clean install, than to learn the hard lesson of not having files backed up (see miklb start backing up his laptop now).

For more details, and links to articles covering how to backup, what’s new in 2.0, and general discussion see this thread in the support forums.

2.0 RC1 Available

In case you missed it, 2.0 has moved from Beta, to RC1. Still not neccessarily intended for everyday use (though the quick jump to RC1 from beta must be an indication that the code is almost there).Owen, via his Asymptomatic blog outlines the major changes for 2.0, for those keeping track at home. WordPress Station may well jump the gun and give RC1 a live test soon, after checking out some plugin compatibility.
