WordPress Slowdown and a Challenge

A call to the WP community to spur theme and plugin development. Not really any prizes, rather the basic desire to give back to community (and garner some traffic to your site). I’d like to think that the creativity in the community is cyclical, and as summer is here, people are simply outside doing more, and not huddled up in their home office working out a new WP plugin.
I do agree about the theme development, as I see a lot of themes that I don’t post about on WP Station simply because they are quite the same as a lot of what’s out there. I don’t mean to insult them, as they probably are learning XHTML and CSS, and simply release the theme to the community out of a sincere desire to give back (and get some traffic to their site).
It will be interesting to see what transpires in the challenge, and hopefully some sparks will spurn a new wave of development outside the core code.
I also hope my new idea for a contest will do the same, in a different manner.
