Shuttle

Broken Kode
Announced last week that Shuttle was “launched”, and subsequently the WP community was in a sea of posts recanting the “launch” of a new admin interface for WP. The truth of the matter is, there isn’t any code, from what I’ve read, purely some images, and some Photoshop files. There also seems to be mulitiple versions, and a split within the team that developed it. So the truth of the matter is yes, a lot of time and energy was put into mocking up a better interface, but much more work will be required before it truly is launched. I wouldn’t expect to see any of this in 2.1, and I’m not even sure what the roadmap looks like from there.

  1. There has been no split between the team, so it would be cool if you could represent the information in a more consise manner.

Michael wrote that post as a what we were working on for a while to show what ideas we had in the first place. The design has been ‘launched’ whether you like that term or not in so much as we have presented the lead developer of wp with what we think should be the new face of wp. Our immediate services are no longer needed as he can call on the whole community (which numbers in the 1000s) to implement the design if need be.

Seriously this should be something to be happy about, no negative :) .

  2. I appreciate your comments, and well though it was not my intention to “misrepresent” anything, I feel though perhaps you are too close to the situation to dictate what the outward perception is. I’ve read both posts, I’ve seen some comments on the hackers list, and that is exactly how I see it.

And I feel though it sounds good on paper to say a “shuttle launch”, if one were to launch a ship that couldn’t hold water, the crew would quickly drown.

I have but the utmost respect for your work Michael, and if it wasn’t your intention to insinuate that you had different design ideas, then I apologize in using the term “split”. But a title of “The Shuttle That Wasn’t”, and to say

Had I stayed on though, I would have worked to implement some of our initial design aesthetics, which looked like this:

followed by your own set of screen shots, left me, and others, feeling that there indeed was a difference of opinion on the project.
I’d also add that a comment from Chris Davis on the hackers list

I look forward to seeing what the community can do now that we (being the
    shuttle team) are done arguing.

left me with a feeling that things were less than unified.

My purpose of this post was not to inflame, rather I had come across dozens of posts while looking for content for this site simply regurgitating the post headline from Khaled, with assumption that the screenshots would be in the next version of WP.
Again, it wasn’t my intention to fan any flames, but at the same time I’m entitled to expressing my own opinions on how a situation is perceived.
