I’d pick changing classic over Kubrick any day. Way easier to modify, especially if classic were fixed (re: the sidebar). It didn’t take me long to fix classic for myself, and start using that as a template for a few different styles.

wait, so the goal of your competition is to educate end users, to prompt them to try to make their own customizations? CSS is the same whether you’re talking about classic or K2. and as wank said, this is a full time job you’re taking on, you should have a better plan before announcing.

and as far as being in every install? i think we can hold our breath safely expecting that ‘honor’ to be bestowed on k2 in the near future.

First, I’ve responded to the bold assertion that I’m doing this with some sort of “pagerank chasing” boost in mind. Not my goal, in the least.
Regarding the question of style sheets for “modernized” themes, well, sure that would be one thing. But my thinking is that classic is there, in every install. Why not have some modern approaches to style, to give new users an idea of what can be done, before tackling such code heavy and complicated themes like K2 or fauna. I’m not trying to change the world, or set it on fire, it’s simply an idea that I had, that I put out there. Nothing was set in stone. Depending on the amount interest, the prize might be an ipod nano, or some hosting. Also, as I stated in the original post, it gives those users who have taught themselves enough CSS to get in trouble to participate, as they don’t have to be a coding pro to write a theme from scratch.
What ever happened to doing things for fun, with just a little incentive. Why does everything have to be about major prizes, and lifetime commitments to a contest?
