Asides are a popular feature on blogs these days, and this new version of the plugin is an easy way of implementing them on your blog. Custom output and category exclusion from the home page is all handled from an options page. If you are not comfortable in editing the templates directly with custom code, this seems to be your best option. Also makes it easier to drop asides if you decide to not use them in the future.
