WDA Theme

Sapientone

Oops. Sorry, didn’t post this one earlier. A clean, two column theme with a right-hand sidebar, also with some AJAX implementation. I really like the use of white space, and the contrast of red and grey on the white background. Definitely a great starting point for someone looking to customize their theme. Slight warning, the site is Italian (I think), but there is a small English blurb to help.

Rob outlines some nifty behind the scenes changes to the popular “now reading” plugin. Upgrades will include:

  • meta data for books

This is a well developed plugin, that continues to grow in functionality and users. If you are a blogger who likes to share their reading list, this is a must have plugin. Stay tuned for release date of the new version.

Update 24.1 Now in Beta

List Peer Pages Plugin

Chris McCafferty

If I’m understanding the plugin, if you are on a child page, that has other siblings, this plugin will list those pages, however if you are on the top level/parent page, it will not show those children. As WP evolves to be used more and more as a CMS, and not just for blogging, plugins such as this one become much more handy, at least until the core code is adapted for better page management.

Freggie WordPress Theme!

Nuwen.Com

If you haven’t noticed by the design colors of this site, I’m fond of green, so when I came across this new WP theme, I was excited! Well done right handed, two-column theme, with just a touch of graphics. Personally, I’d use a little more contrast between the blog and the background, but that may just be me. A lot of effort was put into the comments section, something my recent work has taught me is a bit of a task in of itself, to say the least. Definitely worth checking out.

WordPress Slowdown and a Challenge

Blogging Pro

A call to the WP community to spur theme and plugin development. Not really any prizes, rather the basic desire to give back to community (and garner some traffic to your site). I’d like to think that the creativity in the community is cyclical, and as summer is here, people are simply outside doing more, and not huddled up in their home office working out a new WP plugin.
I do agree about the theme development, as I see a lot of themes that I don’t post about on WP Station simply because they are quite the same as a lot of what’s out there. I don’t mean to insult them, as they probably are learning XHTML and CSS, and simply release the theme to the community out of a sincere desire to give back (and get some traffic to their site).

It will be interesting to see what transpires in the challenge, and hopefully some sparks will spurn a new wave of development outside the core code.
I also hope my new idea for a contest will do the same, in a different manner.

WWW Redirect Plugin

Justin Shattuck

A handy plugin to allow user control over the WWW redirects that often confuse and baffle visitors and search engines. I’ve not tested the plugin, but my guess is that it writes to your .htacess file, so anytime you experiment with such plugins, it’s always a good idea to do a backup of the file before the experiment. Hopefully Justin will clarify things if I’m wrong.
