Tags in the Head

Much is discussed regarding tagging, SEO, and the like. If you are looking to hedge your bet, and leverage all of your options, you may want to look at this plugin which takes your UTW or Jerome’s Keyword data and converts it to meta tags on your pages. The admin interface allows for customization of different templates and what you want for descriptions, etc.

Building a Shelf in WordPress

In case you missed this last week, Owen offers up a tutorial on adding a “shelf” to your blog. For those not familiar with the “shelf”, it’s a AJAX-ified pulldown that you can add additional content to, but is “hidden” until the user clicks the tab (or what ever you use trigger the action). I’ve seen “shelves” contain an “about” section, flickr images, just about anything can be added. Well written tutorial, definitely worthy of a read and a del.ico.us bookmark.

Suggestions

On any given day, 40-50 of you are subscribed to this feed. I’d like to know what you’d like to see more of, less etc. Would you like all plugin updates, or just the ones I’ve filtered? Themes, all of the ones I look at, or just the ones that are unique enough (that is, not basic changes to the default theme)? I’ll be adding a bunch more content tonight, but was just wondering where I should focus, as I read quite a few sites looking for items to post. Your comments will be highly useful and appreciative.

Lots of Catching Up

Well, well. Took a week off (again), and it seems there’s a flood of news to catch up on, so expect a flood of posts the next two days. One non-news related WP item I wanted to mention is The Dead Milkmen, a band which I was a huge fan of when I was in highschool, are running their sites on WP. The archives are especially cool, with little bits of this and that from the bands “boxes and boxes down in the basement”. The Moo cans are especially cool. Check them out for sure.

Calling On WP Volunteers!

As has been discussed numerous times, the best way to “pay” for WordPress is to give back to the community by volunteering. One can help add to the documentation by helping with the Codex, answering questions in the forums, or if you are a coder, helping with bug fixes. Now another area is in need of help. In this post shadow, who has maintained the theme viewer as a neutral site to view the multitude of themes available, is seeking volunteers to help tag, list, and add more themes. So if you are a fan of the themes, and would like to chip in, visit the thread in the forums, see what needs done, and drop him an email (address available in thread)
